Quick Observation

Toured up Paola Ridge and snagged a few laps of quality skiing. Noticed no signs of instability and no recent avalanches throughout the day.

  • Weather was warm (freezing line nearing 5k'), calm winds, and overcast with a cloud deck ~7k' limiting visibility above
  • We found buried surface hoar only in a flat clearing ~30cm down @5500'  after having two small collapses, but nowhere else with frequent handpits...
  • Dug a quick pit at 6700' on a SE aspect 30 degree slope with a depth of snow of 180cm and found non-propogating results on old snow/new snow interfaces and around buried crusts: ECTN3@170 (new snow), ECTN11@155 on hardness change, ECTN21@135 on facets above rain crust (all reusults x2 and repeated in a Compression Test as well)
  • Seemed like the warmer temps and calm conditions were condensing surface snow quickly... and we were kicking off damp roller balls below 5k' on our exit
