We forgot the inflatable palm trees

We went to the northern Swan Range to track and document wet instabilities today.

• We saw widespread wet avalanches from the past few days on east-south-west aspects. These were mostly wet loose, but there were a few wet slab avalanches. Many of the recent slides entrained almost the full depth of the snowpack with patches of bare ground in the tracks. We saw several large glide cracks opening up.
• Northwest and northeast aspects are transitioning from dry, faceted snow to wet. We triggered lots of rollerballs and some loose wet avalanches on those aspects today, even when the slopes were still in the shade. We noted 2 new loose wet avalanches that ran around noon today on mid elevation west-northwest facing slopes.
• Most areas at mid and lower elevations did not re-freeze overnight.
• South aspects below 6500' were already deeply wet by 10am.
• We skied steep southwest aspects around 11am. The window for good corn is very narrow right now. 10am would have been too soon at upper elevations. Noon would have been too late down lower.
