Was able to ski around the head of Lake McDonald but then it was walking on dirt much of the way up Howe Ridge. One of the large avalanches that ran last week on the SW face of Stanton reached the trail around 4400 feet elev. (photos). Avalanche activity from last week was widespread in the Camas drainage. Gave up on our objective due to lack of snow and skied the burn on Howe Ridge back towards the lake. The supportable melt freeze crust from the night before was breaking down on our descent around noon. There were more than a few drops through the Melt/Freeze Trapdoor
