Ongoing avalanche activity in GNP

We found a poor refreeze and spring diurnal conditions in GNP

• The snow from the 4/28 storm has not consolidated much yet, and was still reactive to human and natural wet loose avalanches after the thin surface crust thawed.  We easily triggered wet loose avalanches on steep southerly aspects by mid-day, and observed a number of small naturals.  These were gouging about 6"-8" deep.  A good portion of avalanche terrain had already shed this snow earlier last week.  
• Still dry snow on high northerlies, which produced skier-triggered sluffs up to D1.5. We spotted several larger soft slab avalanches that likely ran during the 4/28 storm, but no evidence that this type of instability is still reactive.  
• We traveled early for better, safer conditions and kept our terrain choices mellower on sunny aspects as the day progressed.  On due north, we felt comfortable traveling in steep terrain while using sluff management techniques.  
• We noted a number of older avalanches including wet slabs, glide avalanches, and dry slabs. See photos.
