Out for a walk and can't help but think of the season to come when trodding through 6-18 inches on north facing slopes above 6800 feet. Encountered surface hoar galore on top of a few inches of crust with junk at the base. I imagine the temperature gradient within this shallow snow have been quite something this past week with lows in the teens and the ground so warm. Looking forward to observing if these layers will persist or if it will all just melt away in the November rain.
