Quick Observation

Toured up to Marion Lake today. The bush was thick and unpenatrable below the Lake. Above the lake the Bush showed signs of beginning to bend over and get buried. There weren't any signs of any skiers traveling above the Lake .

  • Skies were mostly clear, high clouds. (montana bluebird)
  • Looking into the GNP it seemed like they were picking up snow all day.
  • Winds were light to moderate all day switching directions throughout the day. Earlier out of the N later S
  • We did not observe any recent avalanche activity in Marion or surrounding drainages
  • Dug a pit at 6800', SE facing aspect, HS140 cm, ECT14, 30 cm down. No propagation. Found crust 35 cm above the ground and another at 55 cm above the ground (with facets in between)
  • A party on Snowshed from today reported similar ECT results in the new snow, but did experience full propagation just above the lower of the two crusts with hard force
  • No whumfing or cracking while skinning or skiing South and North aspects
  • The wind was transporting new, light snow on various aspects
