Graupel fest

Day off tour in the Northern Whitefish Range to take advantage of low hazard and explore new terrain.

• 1” or 2” of graupel fell today on old surfaces that are well described in previous obs from this area.
• We spotted a fresh-looking natural wind slab below a high, leeward ridge. It was less than 6” thick and harmless. We saw no other signs of instability and concluded that this potential issue was isolated and manageable enough to ride in steep and consequential terrain. All we encountered was some minor sluffing.
