Headed up the east ridge of Heavens Peak. Found 6" to 15" of new snow on top of the recent crust. Low clouds in the morning, got above the clouds at about 5500'. Significant solar input, watched several small point releases from below rock bands on steep south facing terrain. Saw small cornices building 2’ to 3’ at the ridge top. Continued bootpacking up the ridge until 7400’ where we triggered a fairly large cornice by stepping on a rock. The cornice was about 60’ wide, 10’ to 15’ out from the ridge top and left a 5’ crown. It did not seem to entrain more snow but we could only see part of the path. There was also a crown on the east face of Heavens at about 8000’. Turned around and noticed cracks in the smaller cornices we had past on the way up.
