The snowpack is waking up with the added weight on top of the facet/crust layer. Went for a walk off the resort today out towards Goolies and found shooting cracks from our skin track on steep slopes. On our second run we triggered a sizeable avalanche (50' wide/crown was around a foot) that could have partial buried a person. The avalanche occured on a steep roll over right below the ridge on a north/northeast aspect.
We rode a line down to the beaver pond (so more east aspect). Then we skinned up towards Kona and notice[d] on the steeper slopes some shooting cracks on the switchbacks. On our second run I ended up catching some air off a pillow and when I landed on the convex slope below it propagated. Luckily I was able to ride immediately off the soft slab and get above a tree. We then took the more mellow slope down Kona ridge to the canyon road and walked back to the resort.
