And the clues go on, the clues go on. On and on and on and on and on

We visited Glacier Park to evaluate today's wind slab problem and the near-surface snowpack before all hell breaks loose. Once on the trail, we received a series of clues that tuned us into the near-surface snowpack, the days' avalanche problem, and the avalanche danger.  

• We found moist snow near the trailhead, which changed from what I had noticed in the past couple of days.
• Moderate to strong winds had reached the valley floor and transported impressive amounts of snow in areas with thick timber. Wind transport continued intermittently throughout the day.
• Wind slabs at low and mid-elevation failed easily in hand pits and with ski cuts. The failure plain was either a density change in the slab or facets on the top of the 12/9 crust. 
• Cracking around my skis was common, with shooting cracks occasionally occurring at mid-elevations. Audible failures were experienced several times at mid-elevations.
• Substantial recent cornice fall was observed, but we did not notice any slab activity associated with this.
