Toured up into Skiumah creek not sure what to expect. Found a mix of crust and wet slop. We didn't see any sign of avalanches or debris off Penrose, but couldn't see quite to the top. Tried to ski up the ridge, but the snow didn't get any better and lots of exposed alder and downed branches still! It did get windy, but very little snow seemed to be moving. The skin track out was a fast race track and it was an adventurous start to 2021!
Followed the trail to the lake, then up the west ridge.
