The top foot or so of snow was powder, with tree plops in the woods. A hand shear in the trees didn’t result in a failure; however, another try in the open utility corridor resulted in an easy failure on a crust about 19” down. An ECT adjacent to that hand pit didn’t produce a failure; by tap 30 the snow had compressed to within an inch or two of the crust. A number of burred layers were observed, photo.
