HOT sun and natural slab avalanches

Today we went into the Whitefish Range to poke around at a crown from a recent skier-triggered avalanche (observation) and observe how the snow was handling the hot sun. We confirmed that the slab failed on surface hoar and we saw a grip of slab avalanches that failed throughout the day.

• Solar aspects were wet by 1100 at mid and upper elevations. This area did get a freezing rain crust that was roughly 5mm thick and was already broke down on solar aspects.
• We had numerous audible collapses on a ridgeline at roughly 7100 feet. Ones that make your knees bend and your head look to the sky. 
• We observed 5 natural slab avalanches that all failed on south and southwest aspects at or just above roughly 6500'.
  • I am assuming that these started off as dry slab avalanches running on the 1/13 crust that entrained wet snow below. 

We stuck to terrain with low slope angles unless we were on bed surface. Another day that confirms my lack of trust in the snowpack.
