Post Equinox winter

One burst of graupel (G2) early afternoon. After that, diminishing clouds w a few brief sunny breaks and a few misty/ greenhousey moments. Test profiles on NNE (6400'), ESE (6600') and S (6100'). All 3 profiles showed 40-50 cm of relatively dense (4F) recent snow above distinct crusts. The crust was thick and hard (K) in the E and S profiles. On N, it was a 1cm thick, P-hard ice layer topped with soft grains that look to have been through the full wash cycle - faceting, rounding, even some melting. This layer is thin and marked by wind-blown pine needles and lichen. One CT M SP at this layer, but I could not replicate it. ECTNs and CT E/M/H BRK at storm interfaces in the soft slab above the crust in this and other profiles. Distinct graupel layer about 20 cm below surface in S-facing pit that did not produce alarming results. Targeting recent snow problems and did not test below crusts.
