Quick Observation
We took a tour up Big Mountain to maintain the weather station and dig a quick hole.
Snow depth varied between 24 to 30 inches at around 6600 feet.
About a foot and a half of new and recent snow is sitting on a mix of crusts and facets.
We found large, striated grains (depth hoar) at the bottom of the snowpack sandwiched between two stout ice crusts. This will be a layer to follow.
