Quick Observation
Today was a beauty of a day out in the southern WF range.
We observed no obvious signs of instability.
Temps in upper 20s and consistent light gusting moderate northerly winds at 6500’. Winds were transporting small amounts of snow near ridgelines, and thin surface wind slabs were forming in the Lee by the end of the day.
We did find the buried surface hoar ~12-16” below the surface. Still, its presence was spatially variable and hard to identify in some hand pits.
Thin P crust ~14” below the surface on southerly aspects has well-developed facets above and below it that failed but did not propagate in tests.
