Toured above 7,000 feet near Essex today. Warm and wet snow at the road level improves above 5,000 feet. Roller balls off ski tracks on the way out on this warm snow on crust combo.
Higher up the snow dried. Winds were calm with an occasional strong gust that transported snow onto east aspects. The slab that had formed was 1-2 inches thick where it was present. ECTN24 on an E aspect at 7,000 feet. It broke with no propagation under the thick sun crust from last week. On the way up we also found a thinner crust on top of the thicker crust on a SE aspects.
We felt comfortable skiing one at a time in avalanche terrain today.
