Quick Observation

Toured in the Essex area today up to 6,400 feet and found 5-8 inches of new, medium density snow on a supportable and forgiving crust. The first 1,000 feet of our south facing descent was delightful skiing but gradually turned to hot pow. I dug a few hand pits and found somewhat consolidated snow. It snowed lightly at times, it was mostly overcast skies but the sun made brief appearences multiple times. No wind, no signs of recent wind or windslabs.
