Quick Observation

Great day skiing cold dry snow in the Flathead Range.

  • Toured into Remington Creek up to 7600'.
  •  6-8 inches of new snow observed at our highest elevations.
  • New snow appeared to be almost entirely grauple.
  • These deep cohesionless pellets slough readily on steeps, but didn't seem to run very fast. It skied like cold dry sand and made a very pleasing hiss as we schussed about.
  • New snow appears to have started warm/wet and finished dry. It seemed well bonded at the interface with the old hard ice layer.
  • The kiss of death (the sun) made an appearance late afternoon (3pm) at mid/lower elevations and quickly wetted the snow surface on W/NW aspects.
