Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

One pit dug on lower angle previously wind loaded slope on NE aspect on Elk Mt. The objective was to assess wind loaded terrain. It appears as if the recent light north winds 2 days prior may have "knocked back" the typical wind loaded slopes creating hard slabs and redistributed loose snow to more SW aspects. As we skied down a more SW aspect we found more recent and more sensitive wind slabs. These slabs were up to 8 inches thick and very isolated and small. They were more just pockets of wind slab.
