Toured up to sub Shields on Saturday morning. Still low snow below Peak 6996 (40 cms) but found good skiing on the main NE shot back down to Fielding Creek.
Dug at 6500' on a NE aspect, 34 degree slope.
HS 90 cm - ECTX (no results)... we found 60 cm of frozen snow sitting on the ground, with 30 cm of lighter density snow above it that was not reactive. Yet! The new snow in the top 30 cm of the snowpack was a mix of facets with 4 inches or so of fresh on top of them. Skiing was great but still sharky! As was the approach.
