Slabs Cascading on Surface Hoar

Toured into Cascade Creek to investigate storm and wind slab development as well, evaluate reactivity of buried persistent weak layers.

• Snowpack was moist below 4600' and dry above 
• Evidence of loose wet avalanches from rain on snow at lower elevations on Wednesday crossing Skiumah trail
• Thin crust noted to snow surface below 4600'
• Wind speeds increased around approx. 5000' with light snow transport noted at ridgelines
• No signs of recent slab avalanches on surrounding slopes and no surface cracking or collapses noted throughout our tour
• Loose dry snow movement in steeper terrain (> 35 degrees)
• Approx. 40" of new snow over the past two weeks with approx. 10" during the last 48 hours
