Quiet snowpack in Noisy Basin

We found a generally stable snowpack with isolated and small wind slabs forming at ridge crest.

• No recent avalanche activity observed in Noisy Basin, although Jewel Basin was obscured by fog
• Shallow cracking isolated to a few feet below ridgelines at 7,000 feet. There were moderate westerly winds lightly drifting snow. We skier triggered one small wind slab, 4"-5" thick, below a corniced ridge.
• The storm snow is dense and uniform here. Stability tests suggest storm slabs are unreactive.
• A stout rain crust, capped by ~3" of recent snow, reaches up to ~6,000'.  
• We skied steep terrain with no signs of instability, but avoided potentially shallow or heavily corniced slopes.
