Quick Observation
  • Went for a tour in the southern Whitefish Range following the Ambre traverse to the North Fork.
  • Broken skies, no precip, calm or sometimes light & variable winds, and temps near freezing above 6000 feet elevation by the afternoon.
  • Found mostly stable snow today. No storm slab instabilities and great skiing, especially on shady aspects.
  • The persistent clouds kept the wet loose activity to a minimum above 6000 feet elevation, but by late afternoon there were a few small (D1) wet loose avalanches running on steep sunny aspects (photo - E face of Standard Peak).
  • Otherwise no avalanche activity observed and no other signs of unstable snow.
