Quick Observation

Left Essex around 1200 for an afternoon walk up the Marion/Dickey divide.

  • Lower elevation (<5000') snow totaling 4-6 inches. Recent snow bonding well to underlying crust on aspects with solar input; slight sun crust developed on southerlies at most elevations.
  • Minimal wind activity during PM hours
  • Northerlies skied well into Dickey Creek. Kept it mellow and in the trees.
  • No immediate signs of instability, although warming temps were adding cohesiveness to surface slab (F)
  • Little surface sluffing on steeper aspects
  • Glide cracks opening up across the region (one large glide crack has developed on a steep, SE aspect in N. Dickey drainage)
  • The sun made a few appearances; but overall an overcast, calm day out there.
