Quick Observation

Toured into the Baldhead Mountain area Monday. 

  • Weather
    -Below freezing AM at valley locations (slight temp inversion, lack of solid refreeze in higher terrain) Rapid warm-up in PM. 
    -Skies broken during AM hours, turning to overcast in afternoon
    -Moderate afternoon snow showers
  • Dug one pit on an ENE aspect @ 7100ft
    -ECTP 16 @ 70cm from surface, Q1, (facet-topped crust layer) 
    -Moist surface snow capped a 1F hardness slab sitting atop two crusts 60cm and 70cm from the surface
  • Increasing pinwheel activity and moist surface snow kept conditions challenging throughout. 
  • One large glide crack observed in the Lynx Creek area
