One size doesn't fit all

Snowpack height and structure varied markedly. Collapses on SSW and in hangfire above day-old slide on east aspect 6400 ft. Slab/facet/rain crust combo on SE-S below about 5800 feet. Crust ~1 cm thick at that elevation; 4-5 cm thick ~5500 feet. Not especially hard. Moderate southerly winds cross-loading mid-elevation slopes with 4-8" thick, 4-Finger plus hardness slab. Some small but tender fresh cornices. Mixed results in column tests on buried surface hoar 35-40 cm below surface (CT16 SP, ECTP 16, PST 31/100 SF down 35 cm). Signs of instability seemed more common on most open slopes. Only crowns we saw were from 12/12, either natural or during early-season work by patrol. Despite more snow and wind, slow trend of diminishing danger.
