Quick Observation

We traveled as a party of 4 via snow machines up the Skyland road and climbed up towards Bladhead Mountain.
The East and South facing slopes were warmed pretty quickly in the AM. We knew right away that we needed to avoid these aspects. A poor snow structure was apparant early on in the skin track due to low snow conditions this close to the Continental Divide.
We dug a pit at the top of the rigeline 7200'/ NE aspect/ ECTP13 25 cm down. We found surface hoar where the slab propogated. HS 80 cm
We skied 2 different N facing trees runs with soft powder conditons. We stayed away from starting zones and steeper rolls over 30 degress. It was a nice day to explore new terrain, look around at the views and enjoy some early season conditions.
