cold snow on a spring day

This morning Cam and I went for a stroll in the woods through the sidecountry of WMR. We went to check on the presence and sensitivity of the persistent weak layer predicted it todays forcast.

• About 3 inches of light new snow has fallen around mid to upper elevations. This new snow has the potential to blow and create shallow wind slabs in terrain affected by the wind. 
• Our snowpit test results provided mostly stable results on N and NE aspects throughout the Ghoulies and Retirment Bowl area. Weak layers where found about 45 cm below the snow surface. The second most prominent weak layer was above the early march AR rain crust, though this layer showed no reactivity. 
  • Our propagation saw test propogated at 85 cm and collapsed to the end of a 100 cm column. We interpret this as a stable result. We tested both layers of near surfave facets about 45 cm below the snow surface. 
  • The ECT tests where mostly unreactive, with the exception of one ECT on a NE aspect that propogated across the entire column at 23 hits.
