Toured out of bounds from Whitefish Mountain Resort up to Skook Peak for some low angle turns. The recent snow skiied great up high but on our second run at around 6400' (south aspect) the snowpack collapsed resulting in a loud whumpf. Did not see any obvious cracks near me but the area that collapsed was fairly sizable. Not surprised by this result just glad we were not on anything steeper or the snow might have moved. Biggest takeaway from the day is that the recent snow fell rightside up but ontop of a very weak/shallow snowpack so choosing the right terrain is crucial.
