Quick Observation

Toured up Sheep Mountain in GNP today. Beaty of a day.

  • Where's the wind? Okay there was "some" wind up top (8569') around 1pm (5-10mph from the SW), however 0-5mph the rest of the day.
  • Solar afftect from past two days seems minimal so far. No sun crust present from Wednesday. And we were suprised to see that the cold temps kept the snow relatively dry and cold late into the afternoon, dispite the sunny skies.
  • Not much to report in the way of stability/instability, as we spent most of our day out of avalanche terrain. Climing up and skiing down through low-angle forested terrain.
  • Posted a few pictures to show what appears to be an old deep slab avalanche spotted on Mount Grant? Not totally sure, but it appears to be an old crown and flank associated with a bedrock slab feature below Grant Glacier. Other opinions?
