Disbrow Obs

Toured up Disbrow Creek to investigate storm slab development and persistent slab problem.

• Stout surface rain crust up to 5600' with evidence of 1/17 freezing rain event observed at 6500' in our pit
• Throughout our tour, we observed 5 to 27 cm of low density snow above 1/18 rain crust with loose snow movement noted in steeper terrain
• 100 cm slab sitting above 1/9 rain crust that was showing signs of breaking down in our pit
• Moderate W winds on ridgelines with occasional strong gusts
• We didn't observe any shooting cracks, audible collapses, or recent avalanche activity
• Observed a couple old cornice failures that didn't produce any surface cracking or avalanches in the slope below
