Our party of 2 traveled into the northern Swan via snomobiles then skis. With recent snow, we were aware of potential storm slabs, so avoided steep slopes in general. On our ascent, we tested the instability by traveling one at a time over any slopes greater than 30 degrees. We found no cracking, sloughing, or wumphing. A few hand pits were dug while climbing, and we found the snowpack to be right side up, and the storm slab was not overly reactive. We traveled up to about 6,800 ft in elevation and dug a pit on a SW facing slope. There was about 3.5 feet of snow at this elevation. The storm slab failed with 1 tap approx 15 to 20 centimeters down. The slope angle where we dug our pit was about 35 degrees. We chose to stick to a mellower 25-30 degree treed slope, and travel one at a time with radio communication. We enjoyed some great turns the whole way down, and only had to battle minimal bush to reach our sleds!
