Toured up Elk Mountain on Monday. Low elevation snowpack was mostly isothermal, except in select open areas. Mid elevation skinning was on surprisingly firm/frozen surfaces. Intermittent clouds/weather delayed the warmup; we were off sunny aspects by 11am, but saw no softening (due to cloud cover). Pure north skiing yielded some soft turns, with the dominant NW aspect being decent firm skiing. Canyon bottom exit on isothermal through trees reminded us why people are moving on toward non-skiing spring activities
