Took a walkabout in the Essex area. Snow fell through the day, accumulating a couple inches by the end of our tour. Winds were surprisingly strong and gusty, transporting snow and keeping us below the ridge line. Above 6000' we found several inches of fresh light snow on top of the semi-frozen heavier mank, with significant sluffing on steeper pitches, but we saw no consolidation of the storm snow yet and so had no signs of slabs or instabilities in the sheltered terrain we skied. I'd expect significant wind slabbing in more alpine or exposed areas. snow was getting a little gloppy down low. Time to remember to pack skin wax....
