The approach to Rescue Creek was variable - mostly found difficulty keeping an edge. We were expecting stable weather conditions with a slight overcast and warming temps throughout the day (32* @ 8:45am at the trailhead around 3600 ft).
Once we reached the Rescue Creek Basin, we were met with unexpected high winds (17+) light snowfall, and low visibility, which deterred us from continuing to our designated spot SE in Wahoo Creek basin (first timers). The snow in the area was wet/heavy over ice.
We noticed large cornices up on the ridgeline just NE of the Nyack summit (leeward was N, roughly 7600 ft). We also noticed debris fields coming down off of Penrose on N/NE/E aspects - primarily coming from couloirs, one had stopped mid-way down the approach to the Penrose/Nyack saddle (NE aspect). Overall, the snowpack was thin on visible runs.
Rollerballs were semi-frequent on our tour out (12-1pm) with temps rising into the high 30s. Some spots covered the skin tracks.
