Skied with a group as a part of the Patrol Fund Level 2 Class in the backcountry near Whitefish Mountain Resort. Dug a pit and performed an ECT on a North aspect at 6500 ft that resulted in resulted in ECT16N. The ECT failed on a weak layer which was 35 cm down. We found abundant surface hoar that ranged from 5mm to 15mm where it was not disturbed by the wind. Good riding was found on northerly aspects and areas that were less affected by recent high winds.
Skied chicken bones and skinned back up to ghoulies and down to the beaver ponds and canyon creek road.
