Quick Observation

Went up Elk Mtn today on an East -Southeast spect up from the highway 2, dug a pit at 6170'. Descended shaded side of large avy path.

Roller balls as expected starting at about 1030 hours during the skin up

Stopped at 1200 hrs and dug a pit on an East/Southeast aspect. Found it to be largely right side up with progressively harder layers increasing toward the bottom - but found some soft (fist-4 finger) layers of 1-5 cm thickness  lurking between the Christmas crust (about 93 cm from the ground) and HS 160 cm.  Results: CT14Q3 @147 on graupel/new/old snow interface;  CT 25Q2 at 93 on 1mm facets and ECTN 25 @ 115 .

~35 degree slope angle

No recent avy activity observed

No wind loading going on - light variable wind throughout the day

Sunny and warmish. Approximately 18 degrees at Mile Marker 193 (Hwy2) when we started at 0930. 36 degrees back at the car at 1445
