Bread and Butter, Foggy Pow Day behind Big Mountain
 

• 3-4 inches of warm velvet (PP-Needles) accumulated throughout the day
• Moderate SE winds and strong gusts observed above 6400'. Below 6400', winds were light and sometimes calm.
• 1 inch breakable sun crust observed in open terrain between 5000'-6800' on southerlies. Most prevalent on slopes steeper than 30 degrees.
• Sloughing prevalent in steep southerlies and steep northerlies. None resulted in anything larger than a D1, but would suspect larger sloughs possible is more sustained steep terrain. We did not venture into the Skook Chutes today for this reason, and also to avoid potential crossloading/wind slabs.
• Observed a Glide Crack at 6100' on SSE facing terrain on Dorothy's. The snowpack was approximately 1 meter deep at this location and the bed surface is beargrass. I have observed a glide crack at this exact location in previous seasons, a frequent flyer. This failure may have occurred this morning/afternoon due to the lack of new snow present on the exposed ground.
