Quick day off ski above Stanton Lake.
We found between 1 and 6 inches of snow above the 1/13 crust. The newer snow is faceting and is topped of with a mix of large, preserved stellars, and some surface hoar on northeast and east aspects.
The surface was just moist on open sunny slopes thanks to breaks in the clouds. I'd bet a thin sun crust forms there tonight.
The crust is breaking down and not very supportable at lower elevations. It's harder and more supportable above about 5000 feet, though not everywhere .
Underneath the crust the snow has developed into loose, sugary, 2mm facets.
We saw no signs of instability during our tour and no recent avalanches. We skied steep terrain one at a time and it was even pretty enjoyable, as long as you don't mind hop turns.
