Toured up to 7000' in Jewel Basin. Found an overall weak and faceted snowpack sitting on a crust. On open slopes sheltered from the wind, we also found surface hoar. Fun skiing, but a poor setup for the next snowfall.
Sunny slopes held a shallower snowpack, 30cm in some spots, and found a sun crust capping the snowpack on true south facing slopes.
Leeward slopes on ridgetops held old deteriorating wind slabs that were unreactive. We felt comfortable skiing in avalanche terrain on all aspects. Primary concern for the day was avoiding shallow/rocky terrain to avoid injury.
