Jewel Basin - South

Spent the day in the southern half of the Jewel Basin WSA.​

• The access road is horrendous, bring your Chiropractor along.
• Strong ridge top winds, with moderate winds from valley bottoms to ridge tops everywhere we went.
• 1" of new snow.
• Snow surface varied from localized hard slabs along the ridge lines to a <6" soft slab on all aspects and elevations overldying lower density snow.  Difficult to find unconsolidated snow.
• Skiing was good none the less.  Ski penetration was about 10", which made for reasonalble trailbreaking.
• We skied a variety of aspects and slopes up to 40+*.
• Saw some localized small/<6" soft slab releases overlying lower density snow. These were from earlier in the week and only ran short distances.
• Saw no signs of avalanches or snow instabilities during the days tour.
