Quick Observation

​Quick afternoon walk up Skook ridge to check out the latest additions to the snowpack.

  • Surface hoar (~0.5-1.0cm) present on South, West and North aspects, 5800' to 6400'
  • Sits on/in 10-15cm low-density snow over a melt/freeze crust
  • Hasty pit on N aspect @ 6400'  
    • HS =125cm
    • Surface Hoar/Precip Particles 
    • 15cm recent (F) snow 
    • Melt/freeze crust weaker at this elevation
    • 1F slab below crust 
    • Bush ~ 50 cm down
  • Overcast skies, calm wind, and S-1 precip
  • Some sloughing but nothing crazy
  • No obvious signs of instability
