Skied S and N facing terrain in the Middlefork. Mid-elevation winds were stronger than the ridge top. It was almost unbearable to transition on Marion Lake but higher up on the ridge winds were light.
While skiing steep N facing terrain, a small isolated slab avalanche was triggered. It was D1.5 in size but ran a long way and entrained plenty of sluff. It failed on previously wind scoured and rockier terrain at a mid elevation that had developed a wind and/or storm slab. This crust existed on the east side of the chute where winds were busy all day. Again, winds at ridge top we’re light but mid-elevation slopes got hammered all day. Snowfall was light most of the day until about 3:00pm then the skies opened up. Heavy 1-2” per hour snowfall was coming down upon exit. Sluff was easy to manage but was getting worse with all the new snow.
