Quick Tour up into Tranquil Basin, observed a couple of old avalanches (in avalanche tab) and skied some nice snow. Hand-pits showed a variety of rain crusts buried under ~10cm of new snow below 6k'. Above 6500', evidence of the wind effect increased with elevation/openness of slopes. Dug one quick pit at ~7k': West Aspect, HS 275, ECTN 19 @ 245 on density change, matching results in CT test (Q2). Noticed 1F hard wind-slab above 7k' ~20cm thick buried by 15+cm of snow. No cracking, collapsing or avalanches observed on our aspect. Kept to lower angle pleasant skiing...
Spotted this natural slide leftover from last week's big storm. Estimated depth because it was spotted across the valley from us. It looked to be cornice-triggered and probably initiated a sympathetic slab release along the cliffband to the east (left in the image) of the main path. Could not see the debris pile.
Did observe another, smaller avalanche further east along the ridgeline with similar looking flank crown lines.
Also saw a debris pile ~5' deep from a couple of days ago in the first avalanche path crossed along the south side of Tranquil Creek. This slide did not run full width or full track to the creek, but stopped at a bench ~100 yards above the creek.
