Snow conditions were variable in any non-sheltered locations. We found unconsolidated snow, soft wind slabs, breakable wind board, and scoured hard crust. Winds were stronger at low and mid-elevations, owing to terrain funneling. There was limited snow transport this far removed from the last significant snowfall.
We did not find obvious signs of instability on any aspect or in our snow pit. Observed avalanche activity appeared to be limited to the previous storm cycle and was often hard to distinguish due to wind erosion. Very large cornices were visible on ridgelines, although many were broken by prior cornice fall.
Toured up the main Tranquil Basin drainage. Descended SE and NW aspects of Furlong. Returned to the road via Furlong's NW drainage.
