Mount Penrose

Toured up Mount Penrose via Rescue Creek:

• Found about two to three dozen recent soft slab avalanches in Rescue Drainage on all aspects .  Two were D2 that came off of penrose proper .  These elevations had at least one foot of powder on the old crust
• Snow deposition increased in elevation about 5 to 10 cm down low
• At about 5000 feet to the saddle the new snow varied between 25-35 cm
• Transitioning onto the south west face below 6500 feet there even more fresh snow that has roller balls due to warming afternoon sun.   During ascension it quickly became wind scoured to the icy base layer with some wind slabs as one approached the summit.  
• ​sun radiation caused light consolidation/melting in the afternoon only on the SW aspect.  

Skied down the same way we ascended and another party skiied off the summit in one of the avalanche  paths that recently ran
