Mr. Heat Miser!

Revisited some terrain where I found very reactive slabs 2/3. Very different conditions today.

• No collapses, shooting cracks or triggered slides. Poor views of nearby terrain, so may have missed anything that wasn't in our face.
• The 1/13 crust and weak snow from late January are buried about 50- 60 cm below the surface. That's oly 10-20 cm more than on 2/3, indicating that the storm snow has settled and consolidated. Most of that consolidation is in the old snow; the top 20-25 cm are low-density fluff.
• The late January SH was not apparent in 3 quick profiles near a ridgeline (easterly slopes). I found a thin layer of facets above the crust in two sites; it was not present in a profile that included the bed surface for one of the slides triggered on 2/3. None of the large column tests propagated in these facets. Only 1 result (CT 15 SP) in a small column test would indicate slabs remain sensitive to a person's weight. I was somewhat surprised by these results. 
• We skied southeast-facing slopes less than 35 degrees. We went one at a time with good vantage points. We abandoned one uptrack on the same aspect when it lead to more open slopes more than 30 degrees in steepness.
