Quick Observation

Extensive avalanche activity in the paths that we could view from the road on the Flathead side of the highway (more northerly facing, held more snow coverage prior to the storm).  There were also a few slides that ran on the southerly facing slopes across the river in GNP.  In general, lots of small slabs and sluffs at the lower elevations, D1 to D1.5. Mid to upper elevations had more extensive crown lines, estimated D2 in size on average. There were several very wide crown lines on Mt. Nyack that were at least D2.5, maybe a D3. Hard to say from our limited vantage. See avalanche details tab for photos.  A number of paths also ran mid storm and their crowns have been concealed by continued snow, but you could see their debris piles.   There was one fresh crown that was triggered by an animal today at lower elevations.
