Public informed Flathead Avalanche Center staff on 2/1/18 of a natural avalanche that occurred on Monday, January 29th from a cornice fall. He suspected that it happened on Monday with the unseasonably warm weather. He stated skiing in Jewel Basin on Sunday, January 28th but didn't notice the avalanche. He returned on Tuesday, January 30th and spotted the avalanche but due to poor visibility, didn't take a picture. Returned to same location on Wednesday, January 31st, had better visibility and took two photos. He estimated the crown height to be approx. 8-10' in it's deepest location. Prior to the avalanche, he mentioned that no rocks were visible in the slope. The avalanche was located approx. half way between the radio tower and Mt. Aeneas on an east facing aspect above 6000'.
